The buzz is back

2007 is shaping up to be a lot like 1997. There's electricity in the air. There are people all over the place with ideas and the money to make them happen; but without the people possessing skills to carry them out. So it's a great time to be a software developer. It really does feel like 10 years ago, except this time I'm right in the midst of the action. Now, I say this realizing that 10 years ago I was stuck in school watching the gold rush happen without me. So perhaps it's a bit naive of me to compare periods. But, 10 years ago a lot of the ideas didn't appear to have much business merit. They were ideas that were supposed to become profitable. This time, a lot of the ideas seem to be profitable right off the bat, and people just want to reap economies of scale on them. That's not to say there won't be a purge of also-ran businesses when this little economic windfall starts to tail off. Rather, I'm just not quite ready to call this a bubble. My opinion may change in six months however!
